Our trustees individually and collectively have worked for many years to influence and bring about change in policy in the planning, investment and development of communities around the world. Often their work has been the catalyst for change that has led to more investment in the social, education and health needs of deprived communities and has helped foster community ownership and citizen well-being. They bring to Newborns Vietnam a passion and commitment to making a difference and a shared belief that solutions for saving newborns must be sustainable and vested in local providers and communities if they are to bring about lasting change.

Suzanna Lubran leads Newborns Vietnam’s work in Vietnam and has been instrumental in establishing the pilot neonatal project in Da Nang. She has over 30 years experience of urban renewal, including developing innovative socio-economic programmes to foster community ownership and generate employment, new business opportunities, and social and health care benefits. Her previous work also includes the procurement of new schools and hospitals under the UK Government’s Private Finance Initiative and the restoration and re-planning of St Martin’s-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square. Suzanna has been based in Vietnam for the past four years and has worked closely with local health authorities to understand the medical context and need.

Stephen Hill is a director of C2O futureplanners, he is an independent public interest practitioner involved in housing, planning and delivering mixed-use development, urban extensions, new settlements, and community-led neighbourhood regeneration in the UK, Europe and South Africa. Much of his work has explored the links between housing and health, and what makes a healthy and affordable home and neighbourhood for all of us. In the 1990s, alongside the development projects he was working on, he and his colleagues were involved in research into housing and physical and mental health, which showed the enormous public and personal costs of not investing in good quality homes. He has also been a great supporter of self-help citizen led housing solutions, as a more sustainable and healthier alternative to mainstream market housing.

Duncan Macrae is a specialist in children’s intensive care and is a Consultant and Director of Children’s services at London’s Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. He has over 20 years of experience as a doctor in this area having previously worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, and the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia and is currently President of the international Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society. He has a strong interest in education and research, and is on the editorial boards of several international professional journals, and has himself published extensively in books and journals. Duncan has first hand experience of medical practice in Vietnam, having worked as part of an international cardiac surgical team there in 2006 and has worked in similar teams in both China and Romania. He looks forward to contributing to projects supporting the development of children’s acute care in Vietnam.

Daniel Cook is Head of Global Strategy and Planning at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and is currently working on projects covering strategic foresight, business planning and market entry for RICS in Brazil and Mexico.
He is a public policy and influencing strategy specialist with over ten years experience working in both Australia and the United Kingdom across a wide range of sectors including property, sustainability, regional development, local government, planning, gaming, racing, liquor, charities, education and training sectors. In Australia, Dan played an active role in a range of local community organisations, served as a City Councillor in Gosford, NSW (1999-2004) and was President of Australian Young Labor in 1998-1999. Dan has a strong personal commitment to issues such as education, affordable housing and sustainability. He is enthusiastic about playing a role in the creation of Newborns Vietnam in the United Kingdom as a direct way of supporting real need and building of local healthcare capacity within central Vietnam.

Walter Menteth

Walter Menteth is a lead consultant architect and director of Walter Menteth Ltd a RIBA Chartered Practice established in London in 1986, and a Senior Lecturer in the School of Architecture at the University of Portsmouth. He is a London Region Councilor for the RIBA, Trustee of the North Southwark Environment Trust, a Director of Landlord (a not for Profit Company), and a member of the Southwark Design Review Panel. He is frequently called upon to assess architectural competitions and awards and is currently an external examiner at the University of Nottingham. His practice aspires to couple design, production and efficient delivery with benefiting the human condition and applies the same rigorous approach whatever the scale of work. His works have been published, broadcast and exhibited extensively in the UK and abroad and have received 20 awards. Walter has written a number of professional papers, journals and articles. He brings to Newborns Vietnam skills, care and commitment to initiating and delivering appropriate social benefit.

Nick Robinson

Nick Robinson is a real estate development director currently working on major projects in central and north Vietnam. In addition to his experience in building design, construction and management, he has a long history of successful delivery of innovative social and economic development initiatives, ranging from housing co-operatives to employment and training projects for the socially excluded. From his involvement in Vietnam over the past ten plus years, he has been witness to the massive changes underway in the country, and understands how important targeted support from organisations such as Newborns Vietnam can be to those working to develop and improve the services available to the people.

Luke Humphreys

Luke Humphreys is a director of Juicelubes and Velobrands and one of the new generation of young sports entrepreneurs, in two years he has successfully built the Juicelubes brand within a highly competitive market and introduced two new European cycle brands to the UK market. He is a leading amateur cyclist and a British trainee cycling coach. He has worked with local schools throughout South West England to promote cycling as sport and to encourage young people to develop healthy lifestyles. Luke is leading the development of Newborns Vietnam’s adventure sports fundraising challenges, his industry wide connections and his enthusiasm for cycling combined with a passion to give something back make him a great ambassador.
