Ride Across Vietnam With Mike Hall

Ride across Vietnam with Mike Hall – the Round-the-World Race Record Breaker.

On 4 June 2012 engineer Mike Hall became the fastest person to circumnavigate the globe by bicycle, 18,000 miles through 20 countries and four continents in 92 days to beat the previous world record for circumnavigating the globe on a bicycle by nearly two weeks – in May 2013 he will be joining the Cycle a Difference Vietnam Challenge Ride .

Mike has been riding and racing bikes for over 15 years, initially for fun and the sheer love of cycling in its various disciplines. He started the WCR Grand Tour with the clear aim to go as fast as possible round the world and he certainly more than achieved that, 200 miles a day unsupported for three months and many adventures along the way. Mike chose Newborns Vietnam as his charity and it has been great to see so many people from around the world following Mike’s epic ride and making donations. He broke the world record and now he would like to break his own fundraising target. To support Mike to achieve his final goal you can make a donation at http://www.justgiving.com/normallyaspiratedhuman, or invite Mike to speak at your event or be your after dinner speaker – a donation secures and he promises not to be dull!

In Mike’s own words ‘as an endurance rider, cycling for me is all about finding new challenges and expanding my horizons. I wasn’t aware 10,000 babies die everyday worldwide in developing countries mainly from easily preventable causes. I was talking to a friend just the other day whose son was kept on the neonatal ward in Birmingham for a few days before going home, it was no drama for them but in another country, like Vietnam, it could have been the difference between life and death. The direct work that Newborns Vietnam is doing is going to give more babies a chance to survive, their approach is all about making long-term lasting change and for newborns this all about training for nurses. The combination of the sport I love, a great cause and at the end of the ride seeing first hand what my sponsorship will support ticks all the boxes for me’.

The Cycle a Difference ride is aimed at enthusiastic cyclists and while it will be a challenge, 850 miles in 10 days of riding, there are hills, and even a mountain or two, it is designed to be doable by most reasonably fit cycling enthusiasts.

Mike will be supporting the Cycle a Difference team to make this a great ride and will share his experience, there will be no shortage of tips on how to deal with the daily mileage. We hear he has some great stories to tell; about the wind in Slovakia, being accused of being a spy, night riding in India, boxing and cleaning the bike to get through customs in Australia – it looks like great evenings ahead in Vietnam.
